About "My Petit Mundo"

Back in August 2006, my husband and I carried out a 1-year world trip, in partnership with French speaking TV network TV5 Monde, in order to...

1. Report about what makes kids around the world unique
Our aim: Enable kids to open up to other kids culture at an age where there isn't yet any unconscious bias or misconception of what makes us all alike or different

2. How?
During an entire year, we've met with kids, teachers, non for profit organizations leaders across 4 continents (South America, Oceania, Asia and North Africa) and reported back both through our dedicatedd TV5 Monde blog and on YouTube about what kids love to do, read, play, eat... Watch all of it on our My Petit Mundo YouTube channel.

Why this project?

o Becoming a Londoner
We moved from Paris to London back in 2006. Our biggest surprise? How little racial prejudices there are in a city where 25% of the population is not native English. Would there be a way to teach such a level of open-mindedness in countries such as France, where it is still so difficult for communities from different backgrounds to live together?

o Watching France from the UK
Living in London, we began to see the French and what was happening over there, with a brand new point of view. What we believe: getting a better understanding of foreign cultures would make it easier for people from different horizons to grow peacefully together.

o « Video Nation », by the BBC
This initiative aims to get a real understanding of other people’s daily lives all across the UK through home made video shots, using cameras provided by the BBC. Some of those short movies were shot by kids: http://www.bbc.co.uk/videonation

A project for whom?

1. All kids when:
  • Personalities and values are being built;
  • Kids begin to read by themselves and to be more independent;
  • Children are not yet preteens, and distracted by more “adult” activities.
2. And their parents:
  • Are a childs main reference when it comes to learning values such as open-mindedness and tolerance;
  • The main buyers in the children games and books markets.
∆ “When in primary school, kids are at their full learning and discovery potential. This is the time when children’s minds are being built and designed.“
(‘’What does one learn in primary school?’’, France, 2005)

A two way street project

During the course of our journey, we offered kids, teachers, non for profit organizations leaders we met at the other end of the world:

1. Media coverage in our dedicated column on the TV5 Monde Internet Website

During an entire year, we've reported the lives and actions of the primary schools and associations we meet. Those stories are available online in our dedicated column, on TV5 Monde Website.

2. The set up of a blog network

During the entire course of our trip, we've linked our dedicated online column on the TV5 Monde Website to the blogs of all of the organizations we've met, in order to set up a virtual blog network.

3. Classroom workshops around diversity & inclusion

We've set up in advance discussion themes and activities around what we've uncovered in the course of our trip, in collaboration with the primary schools and non for profit organizations we've met, so as to being able to also share back.

As Kim used to be a journalist for the French daily Le Figaro, TV5 Monde let us publish our stories and pictures directly on their Website using their own Internet publishing interface. We therefore had total control over what published in our dedicated column.

Help us spread the word

What can we do for you?

Exhibitions for diversity & inclusion

We'll be happy to share with you the pictures and videos shots we've taken during our journey for any exhibition you'd like to organize as part of your corporate initiatives for inclusion and diversity, either aimed at your own employees and their loved ones, or to the general public as we already did with the Musée de la civilisation du Québec.

Workshops & conferences
During the course of our trip, we've also gathered an incredibly insightful amount of insights and information about the people and teams in the field who are working on a daily basis on achieving diversity across over 17 countries and 4 continents... Let us know if you'd like us to come and help you spread the word through a series of workshops and/or conferences you'd like to organize on the matter. We'll be happy to customize to the public you'll be aiming for, either corporate or the general public.

What can you do for us?

Help us extend our reach

ou can help "My Petit Mundo" by providing a broader reach to the all of the content we have available so an even broader public, either kids or their closed ones, can engage in what we're working on achieving, by simply highlighting it through your own content distribution channels. For more information about the type of content we have available, just reach out to us directly.

Introduce us to people who might be able to help

Your network and your organization's network can be of great help for the mission we're trying to accomplish. If you know someone, who know someone, who might be interested in getting involved, in any way, we'd be extremely grateful for the introduction(s).

Share ideas to evolve My Petit Mundo

We're more than open to ideas you might have to help us evolve My Petit Mundo model, which is currently mostly a non for profit initiative, so as to help us spread the word and maximize the number of kids and people we can make aware of the many beauties of diversity and open mindness.
